which considered the airport based
aircraft would maintain the existing

market share. The constant share
projection yields 271 aircraft by 2020.

TABLE2C
Market Share of U.S. Active Aircraft
San Marcos U.S. Active Market Share
Year Based Aircraft Aircraft of U.S. Active
1980 51 210,300 0.0243%
1985 100 210,200 0.0476%
1992 86 191,629 0.0449%
1998 124 204,710 0.0606%
2000 227 208,655 0.1088%
Constant~hare Projection
2005 239 219,415 0.109%
2010 250 229,070 0.109%
2020 271 248,380 0.109%
Increasing Share Projection
2005 263 219,415 0.120%
2010 298 229,070 0.130%
2020 373 248,380 0.150%

The constant share forecast appears to
be somewhat conservative in light of
past trends. Although the large
increase in 2000 is not likely to be
repeated in such a short period of time,
it is very likely that the airport's
market share will continue to increase.
Between 1980 and 1998, the airport
experienced an increase of 0.04 percent.
As Austin continues to grow, and San
Antonio residents continue to shift to
the north, the San Marcos Municipal
Airport will be an attractive alternative
for aircraft owners. Thus, an increasing

market share projection reaching 0.17
percent was developed. This growth
rate represents the same growth
experienced over the last 20 years. The
increasing market share projection
yields 373 based aircraft at San Marcos
by 2020.

Another forecast method utilized is to
compare the airport's based with
resident population. Table 2D presents
historical and forecast based aircraft
per 1,000 city of San Marcos residents.

2-13
