38. RSS Feeds <br />Provide for RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds to keep local residents, potential <br />visitors, and other subscribers up -to -date on important news, events, and announcements <br />from the City's Website. Users may subscribe to the City's Website and receive <br />automatic updates in their RSS readers, mobile phones and personal homepages (such as <br />iGoogle, My MSN and My Yahoo!). <br />39. Service Directory <br />Implement a service directory to make it easier for the community to find the services <br />they need. While the Vendor generally recommends organizing information by topic or <br />service in addition to by department and target audience, the interactive service directory <br />allows users to filter or search a list of services by category, department, and keyword, <br />thus simplifying the entire process. For each service in the directory, City staff will <br />provide a title and description plus associate the service with contacts in the staff <br />directory. <br />40. Site Audit Reports <br />Using the content management's system, establish a site audit reports tool. This tool will <br />enable City staff to view reports on expired and unpublished pages from the backend of <br />the City's Website. This tool will enable the City to keep track of what content is <br />available via the Website. Additionally, City staff may view the number of pages or <br />items there are on the Website via a content count feature. <br />41. Site Search <br />Implement the fee Google custom search engine into the Website to enable users to find <br />specific content on the Website. This tool searches all the files on the Website including <br />documents such as Word and .PDF files. <br />42. Siteman Generator <br />Include a sitemap generator to enable navigation from a central sitemap where users are <br />able to quickly see a snapshot of the overall website structure. Additionally, visually <br />impaired people often use the sitemap as their principal source of navigation because it is <br />much faster for their screen reader software to move through this than other navigation <br />pages. The sitemap generator will make it easy for website visitors and City staff by <br />automatically generating a sitemap based upon the current site hierarchy. When a change <br />is made to a page location on the Website, it is automatically updated on the sitemap. <br />This feature ensures up -to- the - minute accuracy, and is much easier than the City's staff <br />having to maintain a static sitemap. <br />34 <br />Web Redesign and Content Management System <br />
