<br />violation of this chapter, may be impounded in the city animal shelter. <br /> <br />(b) Animals impounded under this section shall be kept: <br /> <br />(1) Not less than five working days for miniature swine, dogs and cats wearing valid city <br />licenses, unless earlier reclaimed by their owners under the conditions prescribed in this division; <br /> <br />(2) Not less than three working days for miniature swine, dogs and cats not wearing licenses, <br />as prescribed by this chapter, and livestock, unless earlier reclaimed by their owners under the <br />conditions prescribed in this division; <br /> <br />(3) One hour to three working days for feral or wild animals at the discretion of the ffiief <br />animal services managercontrolofficer. The decision will be based upon whether the animal <br />poses a hazard to the other animals at the facility, whether there is room at the facility for the <br />animal and whether the animal is diseased; or <br /> <br />(4) Up to three working days, at the discretion of the eflief.animal services manager control <br />officer, for sick or injured animals wearing no apparent identification through which ownership <br />can be determined. <br /> <br />(c) Any owner reclaiming an animal so impounded shall comply with all of the following: i*Y <br /> <br />(l) Pay an impoundment fee, a boarding daily kelmel fee for each day of impoundment, and <br />all costs of veterinary care incurred during the impoundment period. Fees are established by the <br />city council. These fees may be waived at the discretion of the effief-animal services manager <br />control officer, in unusual or extraordinary circumstances. <br /> <br />(2) Read and sign a statement concerning responsible pet ownership. The statement shall <br />include applicable sections of this chapter. <br /> <br />(3) Remain liable for all fees whether the owner claims the animal or chooses to abandon the <br />animal at the shelter. <br /> <br />(d) If the animal services manager obtains evidence that an owner abandoned his or her pet at <br />the shelter in order to avoid paying fees and fines, the animal services manager will refuse to <br />allow that person to adopt animals from the shelter and refuse to issue that person a pet license. <br />This decision may be appealed to the municipal court. <br /> <br />(d) lf an unimal has been impounded by an animal control officer, no owner "",ill allow the <br />animal to remain in the animal shelter beyond the time periods set in subsection (b) of this <br />section for the purpose of adopting the animal at a lower cost than the fines and/or fees that <br />would otherwise apply to reclaiming the animal. <br /> <br />(e) No sick, impounded animal will be released to the owner until the effief-animal services <br />14 <br />
