Ms. Laurie Anderson, P.E.
July 18,2001
Page 2

Project Geology: Based on review of local geologic literature and the numerous projects our
firm has previously conducted in this area, it is our opinion that a majority of the project is
located within an outcrop zone of the Pecan Gap formation, however, alluvial deposits such as
clayey sand and clayey gravel are located near the San Marcos River. The Pecan Gap consists of
expansive clay soil which transitions into shale. The clays and shales of this formation exhibit
high plasticity and are considered to be moderate to highly expansive. Another important feature
of this formation is the presence of localized slickensided fracture sets. The fractures are a direct
result of past fault movements of the ancient Balcones Fault Zone located just west of the project
area. Seepage water is often noted in the fracture zones of the Pecan Gap formation. Alluvial
deposits are anticipated along the San Marcos River and may also be present above the Pecan
Gap at locations near Cottonwood Creek. These soils, due to their more granular composition,
will tend to transport groundwater.

Field Exploration: Based on our review of the provided plan and profiles, boring locations and
depths were selected. Critical features such as roadway crossings and lift stations were selected
as first priority. After establishing these borings, intermediate locations were selected along the
alignment of the wastewater line near every 1,000 linear feet. Table 1 is provided as a summary
of the recommended boring locations and depths.

Table 1: Boring Schedule Summary

Boring No. Station Depth, ft General Comments
Al 20+00 17 Line "A"
A2 30+00 16 Line "A"
A3 38+25 25 North Side of Clovis Barker
A4 49+00 17 Line "A"
A5 59+00 16 Line "A"
A6 69+00 17 Line "A"
A7 79+00 16 Line "A"
A8 89+00 15 Line "A"
A9 95+25 20 South Side of Mc Carty Road
AlO 105+00 16 Line "A"
All 115+00 19 Line "A"
A12 125+00 16 Line "A"
A13 135+00 13 Line "A"
A14 145+50 19 Line "A"
B1 14+00 13 Line "B"
B2 24+00 16 Line "B"
B3 34+00 16 Line "B"
B4 44+00 19 Line "B"
B5 54+00 16 Line "B"
B6 64+00 15 Line "B"
B7 73+80 15 Line "B"

61 YPG365\613IPI53
Copyright 2001 K1einfelder.
