I

I

- --...
-~

-~

city of San Marcos
Mr. Rodney Cobb

January 10, 2006
Page 2 of5

Laboratory Testing

Laboratory tests (natural water contents, Atterberg limits, and grain size analyses) will be
performed to classify soil strata and evaluate plasticity and gradation. Unconfined compression
tests will be conducted on selected clayey soil specimens to evaluate the compressive strength
of the subsurface strata. Standard penetration tests will be conducted in the borings to evaluate
relative density and strength of sand/gravel soils.

Engineering Services

Engineering analyses of the results of the field and laboratory test results will be made to
develop geotechnical recommendations for various repair options. The report will include the
following:

1. General subsurface conditions, including boring logs with descriptions of strata,
summaries of laboratory test results, and water levels obtained at the time of drilling
prior to using drilling fluid to core rock. The boring logs will include an estimated
ground surface elevation at each boring location if a topographic map or other existing
elevation data is provided to us. Our budget does not include a boring
location/elevation survey;

2. Boring location plan:

3. Geotechnical related repair/modification parameters including bearing capacity (if
applicable), filter criteria, anchor systems, grouting requirements. and retaining wall
earth pressures;

4. General remedial repair construction recommendations;

5. Recommendations for earthwork.

Also included in our budget is engineering time for consulting services and support for
geotechnical related issues.

Construction Materials Testing

Construction materials testing of mass concrete, reinforced concrete. grout, and, if
applicable, roller compacted concrete (RCC) will be conducted during construction of the
remedial repairs. We anticipate these services will be provided on an on-call basis. Since the

I_@
