Archeological Services Proposal

Spring Lake Waterline

may pass through, if no sensitive or extensive deposits are present in the block
excavation unit. If sensitive materials are discovered in the 2x2m block excavation, it is
likely the THe would require that the block be expanded to mitigate the adverse impact
to the sensitive material. Expansion of the block is not included in this proposal and would
be a separate an additional phase of work.

Research Design
The purpose of the investigation is to identify and exam ine any sensitive buried
archeologica I deposits through the excavation of hand dug units and blocks. The goal
of the investigation is to provide sufficient data 10r the Texas Historical Commission to
make a determ ination as to the presence or absence of sensitive cultural material. The
product of the investigation will be a written report of findings is to prepare and file a
report of findings that meet City of San Marcos responsib ilities under the Texas
Antiquities Code and in accordance with Texas Historical Commission Rules of Practice
and Procedure. To meet this aim, the testing and data recovery conducted by Antiquities
Planning & Consulting shall set the following objectives:

(1) to scientifically excavate archeological deposits to determ ine site
significance at site 41 HY306 and to identify any sensitive deposits that
could be adversely impacted by the construction of the waterline;
(2) to scientifically excavate archeological deposits at site 41 HY37 to
identify and mitigate any sensitive deposits that could be adversely
impacted by the construction of the waterline;
(3) to analyze, interpret, compare, and correlate findings with previously conducted
archeologica I investigations;
(4) to assess significance at site 41 HY306 and sensitivity of cultural deposits at site
41 HY37 by analysis and interpretation of materials recovered and assessing the
integrity of the deposits present by geomorphological study;
(5) to identify any potential adverse impacts to any sensitive cultural resources; and
(6) to report findings in a technical document that includes eligibility statements for
site 41 HY306 and management and/or treatment recommendations for site
41 HY37.

Site 41 HY306 Significance Testing
AP&C shall dig two 1 x1 meter test units to weathered limestone bedrock or 6 feet (2.4
meters) deep at site 41 HY306 to determ ine the presence or absen ce of significant
deposits. Unit placement will be one test on each side of the proposed waterline trench
in the vicinity of previously excavated Trenches 11 and 12.

Artifact locations shall be piece-plotted and point-provenienced. Artifacts shall be
described and their locations plotted on level forms. Features will be drawn in a floor plan
for each level excavated. After mapping, features will be exam ined by cross-section and

Antiquities Planning & Consulting

Page 2
