Ms. Narvaiz stated she would like to send this <br />Ordinance back to the Planning and Zoning Commission along with direction <br />from the Council. Mr. Mayhew stated he prefers to work out the <br />differences and not lift the moratorium. Mr. Taylor stated he feels if <br />the City would go to a 1 to 1 or a 2 to 1 replacement this would create a <br />monopoly for the sign companies. Ed Theriot, Acting Director of the <br />Planning Department, stated the Planning Department has already received <br />twenty to thirty calls since the lastCouncil meeting. He stated these <br />calls are regarding IH35 Corridor, Hwy. 123, Hunter Road and Wonder World. <br />Mr. Taylor inquired whether the Council can restrict the distance between <br />signs. Mr. Mark Taylor stated some restrictions are already in effect <br />through the Local Government Code. Mr. Mihalkanin stated he also wants to <br />respect the property owner's rights. He stated he is in favor of allowing <br />more time for a compromise to be worked out. Mr. Montoya stated he agrees <br />the moratorium should remain in place to allow a compromise to be reached. <br />Ms. Narvaiz stated she feels there is enough Council feedback to let the <br />Planning and Zoning Commission hold a roundtable discussion. Mr. Mayhew <br />stated he hesitates sending the Ordinance back to the Planning and Zoning <br />Commission. Mr. Theriot stated the Planning and Zoning Commission has <br />received several comments regarding this Ordinance. Mr. Mark Taylor <br />stated there are no legal reasons the Council would need to receive <br />another recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission regarding <br />the Sign Ordinance. He stated the moratorium expires in July. The <br />Council agreed to hold a Workshop to solicit input from citizens, sign <br />companies and landowners. The Council then voted unanimously for denial. <br /> <br />Mayor Habingreither introduced for consideration reconsideration of a <br />Zoning Ordinance.
