While education and <br /> awareness may be able to achieve the same goal (of graffiti removal), the Task Force <br /> believes an ordinance may be a more expedient method of convincing property owners to <br /> have graffiti removed. <br /> 6 Proclaim a Graffiti Clean-up Day: The Task Force recommends this as a <br /> kick-off event to raise awareness, as well as rid our community of these "gang <br /> billboards" in one day. The Task Force is willing to coordinate this effort, if <br /> supported by city and county governments. <br /> 7 Fund city and connty graffiti clean-np crews: For oogoing immediate <br /> response to graffiti removal needs. If the Task Force is successful in increasing <br /> awareness about the importance of graffiti removal, it will be imperative that <br /> resources are committed to respond to an increased demand for removal. <br /> 8 Churches should host ueighborhood meetings for gang awareuess and . <br /> discussion of neighborhood youths' needs. The Task Force can pr6vide a speaker <br /> for awareness. Neighborhood churches can also help by opening their doors for <br /> youth activities. <br /> 9 Greater coordination and communication between law enforcement <br /> agencies and schools is needed: The Gang Task Force provides a forum for <br /> discussion among members, yet there is a need for clarification and agreement on the <br /> interpretation of laws affecting communications between the two entities. This <br /> interpretation and decisions regarding consistent procedures to be followed needs to be <br /> made at the policy-making levels in the respective organizations. <br /> 1 0 Train all SMCISD staff and students, in Conflict Resolntion <br /> kills: This training h~ 1;>een accomplished in limited numbers, but to be <br /> most effective, students would not only be trained in conflict resolution, it <br /> would be modeled to them by teachers, who were also trained in, and practicing, conflict <br /> resolution. <br /> San Marcos Community Gang Task Force Report Page 11 <br />
