IOIIìG-

August 1 0, 1 994
ISTEA Enhancement ,Pr,ogram
Texas Department of Transportation
125 East 11 th Street
Austin, TX 78701-2602
Dear Review Committee Member:
I am writing to support the application for the San Marcos River Gateway Hike and Bike
Trail System. I am very excited by the prospects of having a hike and bike trail which will
connect the library to the river, the city's park system, the university, our downtown area,
and some of the low income neighborhoods nearby.
Our library recently moved from a quiet neighborhood environment to a highly visible
location on one of the main traffic arteries through San Marcos. As a result of the move,
we have had a tremendous increase in use. But we also have seen the diftìculty some of
our patrons have reaching the library by bicycle and on foot. Soon a community activity
center will be built nex"t to the library and there will be an even greater need for a hike and
bike trail in this area.
This trail will not only enhance the accessibility of the library, it will be a great asset to the
entire community. We hope that you will support the city's application for this valuable
project.
JÆ~e~F
Stephanie Langenkamp
Library Director
San Marcos Public Library. P.O.
