An enhanced pedestrian link between the San Marcos River <br /> downtown, and the university unifies tile heart of city. TI16 river and parldands is directly <br /> related to the quality oflife ill San Marcos. <br /> ~ <br /> The River Gateway project will provide both visitors and citizens with a trail which will <br /> encourage ouf nature cOIUledion. It will encourage visitors to stop and visit all parts of the <br /> city. <br /> This carefully planned project CODIlects low and moderate income neighborhoods \villi the <br /> park plllYScapÐ, ball fields, library, youth center and shopping e.re.ß.s. It wilt encourage <br /> fam.i.1.ies and individuals to enjoy the city in a traffic fire environment. <br /> The trail system will enable swrsu students to wnlkand bike safely to campus; provide <br /> e<lsy access to seniors; and provide a cOlmector to city hall and the county courthouse. <br /> The River Education and Interpretation center will provide historical, environmental and <br /> ecological backgrmmd for river and trail users. It will enable children and adults to learn <br /> about nature and tile need to protect its unique plants and Crefitures. <br /> San Marws has agreed to provide a match that exceeds the requirements for eligibility by <br /> the ISTEA program.
