An enhanced pedestrian link between the San ~ River <br /> do\VIltown, and the university unifies the heart of city. The river and parldands is directly <br /> related to the quality ofJife in San Marcos. <br /> The River Gateway project will provide both visitors and citizenB with a trail which will <br /> encourage our nature connection. It \-Ifill encourage visitors to siop and visit all parts of the <br /> city. <br /> This carefully planned project connects low and mooerate inwme neighborhocx:ls with the <br /> park playgcape, ball fields, library, youth center and shopping areas. It will encourage <br /> fiunilies and individuals to enjoy the city in a traffic free environment. <br /> The trail system will enable swrsu students to walk and bike safely to campus; provide <br /> easy access to seniors; and provide a connector to city hall and the CO1ID.ty courthouse. <br /> The River Education and Interpretation center will provide historical, environmental and <br /> ecological background for river and 1J:ail users. It will enable children and adults to learn <br /> about nature and the need to protect its unique plants and creatures, <br /> San Marcos has agreed to provide a match that exceeds the requ.irement.s for eligibility by <br /> the ISTEA program.
