I ,.~1 -10- (2) A maintenance person may perform plumbing maintenance work only upon property owned by the person's employer. A maintenance person who performs such work upon the property of more than one person lS deemed to be performing plumbing work for the general public and must be a State-licensed plumber. Sec. 5-42. Water Conservation. The water conservation performance standards established under Chapter 372 of the Texas Health and Safety Code and under regulations issued by the Texas Water Commission or Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission shall apply to all new and replacement plumbing work subject to this Article. Sec. 5-43. Amendments to Standard Plumbing Code. The Plumbing Code adopted by Section 5-40 is amended as set out in this Section. Chapter 1 is deleted. ~ 407.1 is amended bv renumberinq the existinq paraqraph as 407.1.1, and ~the addition of 407.1.2 and 407.1.3 as follows: 407.1.2. Pipes passing through framing members that will be within 1 1/4 inch from the nearest edge of a nailing surface must be protected from penetration by nails and/or screws. Such protection shall be obtained by a steel plate or busing of at least 1/16 inch thick, and of appropriate length and width installed to cover the area of the piping. . 407.1.3. . Contact between piping of dissimilar metals likely to cause electrochemical corrosion, such as copper and steel, shall be avoided by the use of appropriate insulating material. 407.4 is amended to read as follows: 407.4 Freezing. Water, soil, or waste pipes shall not be installed or permitted outside of a building, or concealed in outside walls or in any place where they may be subjected to freezing temperature, unless adequate provision is made to protect them from freezing. Water service pipe shall not be installed less than twelve inches deep. Water lines within twelve inches of the exterior edge of slab foundations shall be considered as subject to freezing, and shall be protected by use of a closed cell insulating material such as "Armorflex". 504.3 is amended ~addinq Section 504.3.4 to read as follows: 504.3.4 Polybutylene (PB) plastic pipe or tubing shall not be used under slabs or inside structures on new construction. It may be used to repair existing systems consisting of polybutylene materials. 504.6.2 is added to read as follows: 504.6.2.
