b?fD
--
.Participate in alcohol and drug abuse classroom presentations;
.Participate in gang avoidance and violence prevention training;
. Assist development of Youth Crimestoppers Program at high
school.
.Respond to student and staff requests for information.
.Serve as a positive comm unity role model;
.Serve as departmental1iaison between school and regular patrol
officers and investigators;
CServe as liaison to other criminal justice agencies, e.g. juvenile
Probation, Sheriff's Office;
.Work with SMCISD security;
cDevelop expertise and knowledge base about gangs and gang
activity;
~
.Handle criminal violations on school grounds, take reports.
To evaluate the success of this program, we will assess both the process and the
outcomes. Those involved in the process will be asked to evaluate the successes
and failures of this endeavor. Several outcomes can be measured as possible
indicators of success. These include such traditional measures as juvenile
crime ind~:es, the number of referrals to the ju,venile probation department,
any increase or decrease in the number of juveniles handled for "minor in
possession" (MIP) of alcohol. Additionally, we can measure attitudinal changes
in the community, among students, among school staff and among police
officers. The SMCISD has already been conducting some survey work that
would provide a basis from which to make some comparisons. Likewise, we
should look for some favorable changes in the annual survey conducted by
Drug Free San Marcos on alcohol and drug use.
12
