91øR..

Section 3.50 - Methods of Payment:

A pay cycle is completed every two (2) weeks with payday the following Friday. If a

payday falls on a holiday, paychecks will be issued the last work day prior to the holiday.

Department directors are responsible for distribution of payroll checks. Employees should

check their paycheck and paycheck stub to assure that the hours, pay rate, and deductions

are correct. If anything on the paycheck is incorrect, the employee should immediately report

the error to his/her supervisor.

Section 3.55 - Overtime Pay:

For overtime pay purposes, a work period will be seven (7) days in length (excluding the

Fire Department). Employees are required to work overtime hours when necessary at the

request of their department supervisor. Employees will work overtime hours only with the

~
ADVANCE approval of their supervisor. Non-exempt employees (excluding the Fire

Department) must either be paid overtime or receive compensatory time off for time worked

in excess of the normal forty (40) hour week. Overtime. pay and compensatory time are

calculated at one and one-half (1 1/2) times the regular hourly rate. In order to be paid,

overtime hours must be fully documented on departmental time sheets and authorized by the

supervisor and department director. Scheduled holidays, authorized bereavement leave,

vacation leave, compensatory time off and administrative leave (See Section 4.05 -

Administrative Leave) will be considered hours worked for purposes of calculating overtime.

Unscheduled absences or time off for sickness, disability leave, parental leave, emergencies

or other personal reasons will not be considered time worked for overtime purposes. Non-

exempt employees are not to remain on work premises without authorization unless they are

on duty or scheduled to work. "Call Out" hours will be paid in accordance with Section 3.70 -

On Call.

October 1992 Employee Handbook - City of San Marcos Page 3 - 4
