I

1.3

TASK 2 - PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING REPORT

The Engineer will:

1.3.1 Pipeline Design Criteria Technical Memorandum - Prepare a pipeline design criteria
technical memorandum ("TM") to include:

a) A review of the previous hydraulic analyses in order to establish pipeline
hydraulics for design. As a first step in this analysis, the Engineer will
establish design flow requirements for the system. Design flow demands will be
consistent with the City of San Marcos Wastewater Master Plan;

b) Pipeline easement widths (permanent and construction) and range of locations of
pipe in the easement;

c) Pipeline horizontal and vertical alignment criteria;

d) Pipe materials;

e) Pipe Pressure Design: The Engineer will establish criteria for structural design,
including internal and external loading, plus other pertinent factors;

I

f)

Earthwork: Pipe bedding, zone, and backfill requirements; minimum depths;
disposal of excess trench materials; finished grading, drainage, and re-vegetation
requirements;

g) Location, spacing, and sizing criteria for pipeline appurtenances;

h) Creek crossing requirements and details (open cut and tunneled options will be
discussed);

i) Requirements for tunnels, casings, concrete encasements, and utility crossing
support; and

j) Construction access roads and staging areas requirements.

1.3.2 Lift Station No. 14 Design Criteria Technical Memorandum - Prepare design criteria TM
for Lift Station No. 14 to include:

a) Hydraulic Analysis. Refine and update the system hydraulic analysis for initial,
intermediate, and ultimate development, develop system curves and select
appropriate pump curves, define pump operating points and ranges (flows and
heads) and determine horsepower requirements. In addition, the Engineer will
coordinate this effort with the pipeline hydraulic analysis;

I

Davis Lane Wastewater Improvements Project - CH2M Hill

3
