<br /> 1 70 <br /> RAMON LUCIO, RIO VISTA, RIO VISTA ANNEX, AND BICENTENNIAL <br /> PARKS RECREATION DEVELOPMENT <br /> TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION 11 <br /> RESTROOM BUILDINGS <br /> (C) Threaded Pipes: After cutting and before <br /> threading, pipe shall be reamed and shall have burrs removed. <br /> Befor~ installing any pipe that has been cut and threaded, it shall <br /> be stood on end and hammered to remove all foreign material. Screw <br /> joints shall be made with graphite and oil or with an approved <br /> graphite compound applied to male threads only. Threads shall ,be <br /> full-cut and not more than 3 threads on the pipe shall remain <br /> exposed. Caulking of threaded joints to stop or prevent leaks will <br /> not be permitted. <br /> (d) Copper Tubing: All copper tubing joints shall <br /> be made with solder-joint fittings. Tubing shall be cut square, and <br /> burrs shall be removed. <br /> Both inside of fittings and outside of tubing shall be cleaned with <br /> steel wool before sweating. Care shall be taken to prevent <br /> annealing of fittings and hard-drawn tubing when making <br /> connections. Installation shall be made by competent workmen in <br /> accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. Mitering of <br /> joints for elbows and notching of straight runs of pipe for tees <br /> will not be permitted. Joints in copper lines shall be made with <br /> a non-corrosive paste flux and solid string or wire solder composed <br /> of 50% tin and 50% lead. Cored solder will not be permitted. All <br /> joints installed under floor slab on grade shall be made up with <br /> silver solder equal to 'sil-fos'. <br /> ( 8) Air Chambers: <br /> (a) Air chambers of the same material as the supply <br /> pipe shall be provided on water connections to each fixture and <br /> shall be concealed in the chases or partitions. They shall be <br /> capped and shall be one pipe size larger than the supply pipe and <br /> 18" long. <br /> ( 9) Vacuum Breakers: <br /> (a) Whether specifically shown or not, on each water <br /> supply line serving a plumbing fixture, item of equipment, or other <br /> device which has a water supply below the rim of the fixture, <br /> install an approved vacuum breaker. These vacuum breakers shall be <br /> designated to prevent any possible backflow through them. <br /> 11-22 <br />
