<br /> 226 <br /> RAMON LUCIO, RIO VISTA, RIO VISTA ANNEX, AND BICENTENNIAL <br /> PARKS RECREATION DEVELOPMENT <br /> TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION 20 <br /> LANDSCAPING <br /> nominal 2 inches by 2 inches square. Metal stakes maybe substituted <br /> for wooden stakes. <br /> (2) Wires for tying trees to stakes shall be annealed <br /> galvanized steel or steel gages herein after specified. <br /> d. Mulch shall consist of pine bark. <br /> e. Topsoil shall be obtained from approved sources. The <br /> topsoil source shall be inspected by the Engineer to determine if <br /> the selected soils meet the following requirements. The topsoil <br /> shall be stripped from the top 4- to 6-inch surface layer of soil. <br /> Topsoil shall be fertile, friable, natural surface soil, free of <br /> subsoil, clods, shale, trash, toxic substances, stones 2 inches in <br /> maximum dimensions or larger, Bermudagrass, Johnsongrass, nutgrass <br /> (Cyperus rotundas), or other objectionable and hard to eradicate <br /> weeds or grasses. <br /> f. Water: Water shall be kept free from oil, acids, alkali, <br /> salt, and other substances harmful to the growth of plants. The <br /> source of water and service outlets used shall be subject to <br /> approval of the Engineer!. <br /> 20-05 PLANT HATIRIALS: <br /> All plant material furnished shall be nursery-grown, well <br /> branched and wel¡ proportioned, particularly with respect to the <br /> width-height relationship, and shall have a fibrous root system. <br /> The Eng ineer may inspect plants at place of growth, but such <br /> inspection shall not preclude the right of rejection at the site. <br /> a. Nomenclature I The scientific and common names 9f plants <br /> shown on the drawings conform with the approved names given in <br /> Standardized Plant Names prepared by the American Joint Committee <br /> on Horicultural Nomenclature. <br /> b. Quality and size of plants shall be in accordance with <br /> rules and grading adopted by the American Standard for Nursery <br /> Stock. All plants shall be of excellent quality and have a normal <br /> habit of growth and shall be sound, healthy, vigorous, and free <br /> from disease and insect infestations, and damage. <br /> Trees shall have single straight trunks unless otherwise specified. <br /> Any tree with weak thin trunk not capable of supporting itself when <br /> 20-2 <br />
