<br /> 229 <br /> RAMON LUCIO, RIO VISTA, RIO VISTA ANNEX, AND BICENTENNIAL <br /> PARKS RECREATION DEVELOPMENT <br /> TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION 20 <br /> LANDSCAPING <br /> Balled and burlapped November 15- April 15 <br /> Container g:rown Anytime of the year <br /> 20-08 OBSTRUCTIONS BELOW GROUND: <br /> Any rock or other underground obstruction shall be removed to <br /> the depth necessary to permit proper planting# according to plans <br /> and specifications. If underground obstructions or rocks are <br /> encountered in excavation of planting areas, other locations for <br /> the planting may be selected by the Engineer. <br /> Explosives may NOT be used. The Contractor shall familiarize <br /> himself with all existing underground utility locations and shall <br /> avoid damaging them during planting operations. The Contractor <br /> shall repair at his own expense any damage to existing utilities. <br /> 20-09 PLANTING OPERATIONS: <br /> a. Locations of plants shall be marked at the ground by the <br /> Contractor and approved by the Engineer before any excavation is <br /> made. No trees shall be planted less than 36 inches from a <br /> building. In the event obstructions are encountered which prevent <br /> planting as indicated, the plant or plants will be planted in a new <br /> location, as approved by the Engineer. <br /> b. Before excavations are made, precautionary measures shall <br /> be taken to protect all turfed areas that are to be trucked over <br /> and upon which soil is to be temporarily stacked pending removal <br /> or reuse of the 80il. Existing trees, shrubbery, and beds that <br /> are to be preserved shall be barricaded in a manner to afford <br /> effective protection during planting operations. <br /> c. Excavation for planting shall include the stripping and <br /> stacking of all acceptable topsoil encountered within the areas to <br /> be excavated for plant pits. Excavation for plant pits shall <br /> extend to the required subqrades as indicated on the drawings. <br /> Plant pits shall be circular in outline and shall have vertical <br /> sides and flat bottoms, or may be machine dug in a square shape <br /> with vertical sides and flat bottoms provided the minimum width of <br /> square pits is as great as the diameter for the circular pits. The <br /> minimum depths of plant pits s hown on the drawings shall be <br /> measured from finished grade. <br /> 20-5 <br />
