Available suitable surplus excavated material from grading <br /> or other on site construction shall be used for embankment and fill <br /> construction. Excess material shall be disposed of off site by the <br /> Contractor. The term "suitable materials", as it applies here, <br /> means those materials that are approved by the Engineer to be used <br /> for embankment and fill construction. <br /> b. Borrow when required and approved. by Engineer for roadway <br /> and parking lot construction shall be from Contractor's source and <br /> approved by Engineer. <br /> 2-05 PROTECTION OF SERVICE LINES AND UTILITIES: <br /> a. Existing and newly installed utilities shall be protected <br /> and safeguarded from damage during grading operations and, if <br /> damaged, will be repaired immediately in like manner and materials <br /> as the original by the Contractor at his own expense. <br /> 2-06 CONSTRUCTION METHODS: <br /> a. Following the stripping and stockpiling of topsoil the <br /> Contractor shall make all excavation necessary to grade the work <br /> area to the elevations and grades as shown on the drawings and/or <br /> as directed by Engineer. Excavation shall be in accordance with <br /> the pertinent portions of the Texas SDBPT Standard Specifications <br /> Item 110. All su~tableexcavated material shall be utilized, <br /> insofar as pract.icableinconstructing the embankments, flattening <br /> slopes, and backfill, as shown on the drawings. .Unsuitable <br /> materials of any øoU 1t shall -Qe designated as "waste material" and <br /> shall be hauled" by the Contractor from the site and disposed of <br /> at appropriate site in accordance with applicable permits and <br /> regulations. <br /> b. Subgrade for roadway construction shall be prepared by <br /> removing objectionable materials (The removal is paid for under <br /> site preparation item.) encountered. The term "objectionable <br /> materials", as it applies here, mean those materials that are <br /> judged unsuitable by the Engineer. <br /> 2-2 <br />
