<br /> 96 <br /> RAMON LUCIO, RIO VISTA, RIO VISTA ANNEX, AND BICENTENNIAL <br /> PARKS RECREATION DEVELOPMENT <br /> TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION 3 <br /> EXCAVATION FOR STRUCTURES <br /> f. Excavation for the pedestrian bridqes shall comply with the <br /> details and the elevations shown on the drawinqs, and with the <br /> requirements of technical specification 7. <br /> 3-06 DISPOSAL OF EXCAVATION MATERIAL: <br /> a. To the extent suitable and needed, excavated material shall <br /> be used in backfill or fills. Such material shall be free from <br /> frozen material, trash, lumber, broken pieces of concrete havinq <br /> any dimension greater that two (2) inches or broken concrete in <br /> nests regardless of dimension, or other debris. Such materials <br /> shall be susceptible to proper compaction. <br /> b. Excavated materials unsuitable for use, or in excess of <br /> needs, shall be disposed of by the Contractor off-site. The term <br /> "unsuitable", as it applies here, means those materials that are <br /> j~dged unsuitable by the Enqineer. <br /> 3-07 BACKFILL: <br /> a. Backfill shall be made from suitable structural excavation <br /> materials, and/or from suitable excavation materials if and as <br /> needed. Such materials shall conform to the requirements of <br /> paragraph 3-06a. above. <br /> b. Backfill shall be compacted to a max~, in-place, dry <br /> density not less than ninety five percent (95%> of the maximum <br /> density, at optimum moisture, obtained in the laboratory (Tex-l!3 E <br /> or AASHTO Proctor). Proctor tests (moisture density relationship) <br /> shall be provided by the Contractor for each type of material <br /> he/she proposes to use for backfill. <br /> c. Backfill shall not be placed against concrete structures <br /> until the expiration of the four (4) day curing period except for <br /> the low water crossing which shall be cured for a period-of eight <br /> (8) days. <br /> d. Compaction shall be obtained by the use of pneumatic or <br /> mechanically actuated tampers. Gravity hand tampers may be used at <br /> the Engineer's option. Backfill material shall be sprinkled or <br /> aerated as necessary to assure the required dens i ty (moisture <br /> density relationship). <br /> 3-3 <br />
