<br /> 146 <br /> RAMON LUCIO, RIO VISTA, RIO VISTA ANNEX, AND BICENTENNIAL <br /> PARKS RECREATION DEVELOPMENT <br /> TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION 10 <br /> EXTERIOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS <br /> b. The Contractor shall perform all excavation for the burial <br /> of conductors from transformer pole to the various buildings. The <br /> banks of all trenches shall be kept as nearly vertical as <br /> practicable. Trench excavation shall comprise the satisfactory <br /> removal and disposition of all materials. During excavation, <br /> material suitable for backfilling shall be stacked in an orderly <br /> manner a sufficient distance back from the edges of trenches to <br /> avoid overloading and prevent slides or cave-ins. <br /> c. All electrical equipment, switches, switch boxes, meters, <br /> etc., shall be installed in accordance with the recommendations of <br /> the manufacturer, the accepted practices of the trade, and the <br /> National Electric Code, all as shown on the drawings, and rigidly <br /> attached to prevent vandalism. <br /> d. ~l exposed metal compartments shall be painted with two <br /> coats of Pratt & Lambert paint 16118 coffee brown semi-gloss enamel <br /> paint or equal. <br /> 10-05 BACKFILLING: <br /> a. General: The trenches shall be carefully backfilled with <br /> the excavated materials approved for backfilling, consisting of <br /> earth, loam, sandy clay, sandy gravel, soft shale, or other <br /> approved materials, free from large clods of earth or stone. Rock, <br /> broken concrete or pavement, and large boulders shall not be used <br /> as backfill material. <br /> Backfill shall be placed in layers 1 the thickness of the <br /> layers shall be 6" compacted thickness and shall be compacted to <br /> the requirements of 2-07. <br /> The Contractor shall not place material detrimental to plant <br /> growth in the top 6 inches of backfill. <br /> After completion of the backfill operation, the trenching area <br /> will be generally left in a neat and smooth condition, with slight <br /> rounding left over the trench to anticipate a small amount of <br /> subsequent additional settlement. <br /> Any trenches improperly backfilled, or where settlement <br /> occurs, shall be reopened to the depth required for compaction, <br /> then refilled and compacted with the surface restored to the <br /> required grade and compaction and left in a completed surface <br /> condition as described above. <br /> 10-4 <br />
