Samples of proposed select fill <br /> shall be furnished to the testing laboratory a minimum of seven <br /> days prior to installation to permi t time for specification <br /> compliance inspection and approval. <br /> ( 2) Excavated material approved for use as backfill shall <br /> be free of stones larger than 2 inches in longest dimension, roots <br /> and organic material. <br /> (3) Utilities: Coordinate concrete work with plumbing, <br /> electrical or other trades whose work must be installed in or below <br /> concrete slabs or through beams or slabs. Furnish necessary grades <br /> and dimensions as required for proper installation of all pipe and <br /> conduit. <br /> c. Excavation, Filling and Backfilling: <br /> ( 1) Excavate in the area of the building, extending 3 <br /> feet beyond building line, to a depth of 1 foot below existing <br /> grade. Excavations shall extend a sufficient distance from the <br /> walls and footings to allow for the placement and removal of forms. <br /> Where excavation is to lower levels or greater depths than required <br /> for foundation construction shown, or where unsatisfactory material <br /> is removed, the excess material shall be replaced with select fill <br /> material. Refer to drawings for depths of beams to be excavated <br /> after select fill has been placed. <br /> (2) Select Fill Placement: Contractor will roll and <br /> compact the opened aubgrade after removal of existing soil and <br /> prior to placing first layer of compacted fill material. Within the <br /> confines of the building foundation and to the limit of compacted <br /> fill noted herein, bring the excavated area to establish.d finish <br /> grade, using fill as specified in properly compacted layers. The <br /> layers shall not exceed 6" compacted thickness. <br /> 11-3 <br />
