<br /> -3- <br />Sec. 1-6. Location. <br />All signs are subject to the following general locational <br />restrictions: <br /> ( 1) No sign shall be maintained at any location where it may <br /> interfere with the view of, or be confused with, any <br /> traffic control signs or signals. <br /> (2) No sign shall be located on, or project over, public <br /> property or street right-of-way except governmental <br /> signs, bench signs, subdivision identification signs, <br /> temporary banner signs, and permitted signs in the <br /> Central Business Area (CBA) zoning district. <br /> ( 3) All signs shall maintain a clearance of at least 9 feet <br /> when located over a public sidewalk and at least 12 feet <br /> when located over a driveway, and shall extend no closer <br /> than 18 inches from the curb line of a public street, <br /> unless painted or mounted flat on the surface of an <br /> existing awning, canopy, or marquee. <br /> (4) No sign, except governmental signs or a single <br /> freestanding sign shall be located within a <br /> sight-triangle. No portion of a non-governmental <br /> freestanding sign in the sight-triangle shall occupy the <br /> area above 3 feet or below 12 feet from the elevation of <br /> the crown of the nearest street, except for a single <br /> pole 18 inches or less in diameter. <br /> (5) Only signs required in the interest of public safety may <br /> occupy a required off-street parking or loading space, <br /> or obstruct any driveway or sidewalk. <br /> ( 6) New signs and signs being structurally altered shall <br /> maintain clearance from public utility facilities, shall <br /> not substantially interfere with drainage, and shall not <br /> be located in a utility or drainage easement. The <br /> minimum clearance from electrical lines shall be as <br /> follows: For service lines (except those serving a <br /> sign), 5 1/2 feet horizontal and 6 feet vertical <br /> clearance; for distribution lines, 7 1/2 feet horizontal <br /> and 8 feet vertical clearance. <br /> (7) Only governmental signs, seasonal signs, temporary signs <br /> and attached signs, may be located on the roof of any <br /> building or accessory structure. <br /> (8) Lighting for signs shall not produce glare onto <br /> adjoining properties, or in the eyes of motorists or <br /> pedestrians. Bare-bulb illumination is prohibited <br /> within 150 feet of any premises containing a residential <br /> use, and in other cases is 1 imi ted to 25 watt bulbs at <br /> night and 33 watt bulbs during daylight hours. <br /> (9) Signs on premises within a historic district designated <br /> by the city shall be subject to the issuance of a <br /> certificate of appropriateness by the historic <br /> preservation commission. <br />Sec. 1-7. Construction and l!aintenance. <br />(a) All permanent signs shall comply with the current building <br /> and electrical codes of the city. <br />(b) The design of freestanding signs over 25 feet in height above <br /> ground level shall be certified by a professional engineer <br /> for structural integrity. <br />
