RABIES CONTROL <br /> Sec. 3-56. Desianation of a local health authority. <br /> <br /> The chief animal control officer is hereby designated as <br /> the local health authority within the city limits for <br /> purposes of implementation of the Rabies Control Act. <br /> Sec. 3-57. Vaccination of dogs and cats. <br /> <br /> (a) No owner of a dog or cat shall fail to have such <br /> animal vaccinated against rabies by a veterinarian by the <br /> time the animal is four (4) months of age and at regular <br /> intervals not less than once each year thereafter. <br /> (b) A veterinarian who vaccinates a dog or cat against <br /> rabies shall issue to the owner of the animal a dated <br /> vaccination certificate describing the animal vaccinated. <br /> Sec. 3-58. Re~orts of exposure of rabies reauirad. <br /> <br /> (a) Any person having knowledge of an animal bite or <br /> scratch that the person could reasonably foresee as capable <br /> of transmitting rabies or of an animal that the person <br /> suspects is rabid shall report the incident or animal to the <br /> local health authority. The report shall include the <br /> location of the incident or ,animal, the name and address of <br /> the animal's owner and of any victim if known, and a <br /> description of the animal. <br /> (b) The local health authority shall investigate all such <br /> reports of rabies. <br /> Sec. 3-59. Quarantine of animals. <br /> <br /> (a) The owner of any animal that is reported to be rabid <br /> or that the owner knows or suspects to have rabies, or to <br /> have exposed any person to rabies, shall submit the animal <br /> to the local health authority for quarantine. <br /> (b) No person shall remove from the city limits, or kill <br /> or cause to be killed, any rabid animal, any animal <br /> suspected of having been exposed to rabies, or any animal <br /> which has bitten a human or is suspected to have bitten a <br /> human, except as provided herein. <br /> (c) Any animal reported to the local health authority <br /> under the provisions of Section 3-58 whose owner cannot be <br /> located may be impounded for quarantine in the city animal <br /> shelter. <br /> (d) The quarantine may occur at any of the following <br /> locations, subject to approval by the local health <br /> authority: <br /> (I) At a veterinary hospital; <br /> (2) At the city animal shelter; <br /> (3) At a kennel holding a current, valid city <br /> permit. <br /> (e) Such quarantine shall occur for at least ten (10) <br /> days. <br />
