<br /> 11 <br /> B. Training for volunteer ESL, literacy and GED tutors, <br /> The project currently provides tutor training for ESL and <br /> literacy tutors. We plan to continue this training and <br /> improve GED tutoring to the ESL population, This will be <br /> achieved by offering a specialized GED preparation tutor <br /> training workshop. The workshop will be planned by the <br /> Project Coordinator in cooperation with education <br /> professionals and the local GED office. <br /> C. Computer assisted instruction in literacy, ESL and GED <br /> preparation, <br /> The library has a public-access Apple IIe computer that <br /> is currently under-utilized, Funding of the grant will <br /> allow us to purchase adult basic education, ESL and <br /> literacy software which students will operate after <br /> receiving a brief introduction to the computer by the <br /> Project Coordinator. Use of computer assisted <br /> instruction will complement the tutoring program while <br /> helping students build self-confidence as they gain <br /> computer skills. <br /> D. Development of a Job Information Center within the <br /> library to assist people in exploring careers, developing <br /> job search skills and obtaining vocational training or <br /> employment. <br /> The Job Information Center will be an adjunct to the <br /> library's existing Lifelong Learning Center, The <br /> Lifelong Learning Center houses the library's tutoring <br /> program, a coIl ection of adult basic education and ESL <br /> materials, and a display of informational brochures from <br /> local social service agencies. <br /> The library has a large number of books on resume <br /> writing, vocational guidance, employment testing, and <br /> related topics. These ~li 11 be identified and <br /> reclassified so that they can be shelved together in the <br /> Job Information Center (JIC). After consolidating these <br /> materials He will identify gaps in the co 11 ecti on and <br /> purchase additional materials as needed. This process <br /> will make these materials more visible and accessible to <br /> our ESL students who come to the Lifelong Learning Center <br /> for tutoring. <br /> We will supplement printed resources in the collection by <br /> purchasing computer software on career exploration, <br /> resume writing, and word processing. The software will <br /> be used on a public-access computer that has already been <br /> placed in the Lifelong Learning Center, The Project <br /> Coordinator will provide patrons with assistance in the <br /> use of computer sofbJ'are as necessary. Use of these <br /> materials on the computer will help students gain <br />
