26
To track the success of our Job Information Center, we wi 11
record the number of JIC seminars given and the number of
participants in the seminars, We will count the number of
persons who use the re~ume writing and evaluation service, as
well as those ~.¡ho use computer software for career
exploration and job readiness,
We feel that the best way to evaluate our publicity effort on
behalf of the project is to measure the number of new
students enrolled in our tutoring program, involvement by new
volunteers in the tutoring program, and the number of people
who come to the Job Information Center for information and
assistance. All of these figures will be compiled and
reported on our semi-annual evaluation reports to the Texas
state Library,
In addition to using statistical measures to evaluate our
performance, we will track our accomplishment of specific
tasks set forth in our goals, objectives, and project
timetable. These include setting up the student tracking
system; expanding our walk-in tutoring hours; offering tutor
training workshops in literacy, GED preparation and ESL;
developing, the JIC collection, bilingual publicity flier, and
job resource guide; providing seminars on use of JIC
materials; instituting the resume writing and evaluation
service; providing speeches to community organizations and
canvassing neighborhoods.
We anticipate that the project will have a highly visible
impact on the other key performance areas of library
service. For example, we have seen increased attendance by
Hi~panic children at our story time program and greater use of
our tax aide services by the ES4 community since we have had
LSCA Title I funding, The proportion of Hispanic library
card holders has also grown dramatically with the development
of our Lifelong Learning Project, We will continue to
monitor these indicators of library use by the ESL community.
XII. COOPERATION WITH OTHER AGENCIES
The Lifelong Learning Project was planned in cooperation with
a variety of educational and social service agencies in the
San Hal'cos area. Library staff members discussed the project
Hith agency leaders and solicited their opinions on hOH to
best serve the educational and vocational needs of the ESL
population, Many of their ideas have have been incorporated
into our plan of service, Agency I eadel's have also promised
to help publicize our program and refer clients to our
services.
Some of the agencies that are particularly supportive of our
efforts have written us letters of support which can be found
