This <br />corresponds to the highest reading found with the PID field testing. <br />3) Gasoline contamination of the groundwater was assessed by taking <br />samples from the water in Holes 1 - 8. Hole 5 did not initially have <br />any water. There was no free product found. There was some BTEX <br />contamination of the water. Results reported in attached tables have <br />been graphically analyzed in attached figure 4. The source of <br />contamination is assumed to be the Tank 3 bottom of the backfill. The <br />gasoline has assumed to have migrated to the west to the area around <br />hole t 2. The non italicized numbers on the top are the projected <br />concentration of BTEX in the groundwater. The italicized numbers below <br />the BTEX numbers are those of the benzene alone. <br />10.0 CONCWSIONS <br />* The soil and groundwater are contaminated with gasoline from the <br />leaks in the lines 3 and 4. <br />* The soil in the immediate vicinity of the groundwater contains <br />high levels of gasoline vapors. <br />* The gasoline found in the soil appears to be coming from gasoline <br />that has migrated in the groundwater. <br />* There i, a contaminated groundwater that would appear to be <br />moving west towards the San Marcos River. <br />* The water table is found at a depth of approximately 15 feet in a <br />gravel lens. The water table rises to a height of approximately 12 feet <br />when the overburden pressure is reliev~d. <br />* Additional studies are needed to accurately assess the <br />extent of contamination. <br />* Immediate remedial action is warranted. <br />11.0 RECOMMENDATIONS <br />Drill approximately 20 to 30 additional holes in order to <br />determine the extent of migration of the gasoline in both the water and <br />soil laterally. The wells would be primarily located in the westerly <br />direction. Drilling would continue until the lateral extent was <br />determined. <br />Perform hydrGgeologic studies to determine the direc~ion of groundwater <br />flow and the rate of flow. Water well gradients would be measured <br />and pumping studies performed.
